sex and intimacy coach Adam Fitzgerald

Adam Fitzgerald (he/him/they)

I am a queer, sex-positive, non-monogamous person born in the United States and currently living in southern Spain. After more than two decades working as a theatre director, I decided it was time to take that experience - helping performers connect to their physical and emotional truths - and focus those skills on another passion of mine: relationships, sex, and intimacy.

My work is inspired by the belief that even though we have absorbed so much shame and guilt when it comes to sex and pleasure, with gentle work on the self, guided by curiosity and compassion, we can begin to unlearn those lessons. We are not taught to embrace our sexuality and our sensuality. We are not encouraged to talk openly about desires and fantasies. And a lot of us do not have somewhere to turn to learn and grow when it comes to sex and intimacy.

In the coaching process, we begin to relearn and reclaim our bodies and build an authentic relationship to sex and pleasure. Kindness, honesty, sex positivity, somatic (full body) awareness, a gentle approach, and the diminishment of shame are the fundamental principles driving my work.

In my first book, Recovering From Recovery, I explored how opening my mind about my sexuality and living out my erotic inclinations unblocked many other things in my life. Releasing the shame around those sexual desires gave me clarity regarding my relationship to alcohol and to my past. I believe very strongly that we can retrain those shame-based habits and defense mechanisms that block us not only from sexual pleasure, but from living the whole of our lives more authentically.

We need to ask ourselves what we are hiding from, but I believe we also need learn to tell the truth about what we desire. De-shaming and embracing our erotic secrets can help to free us not only in the bedroom, but can also teach us to be more open and more honest in every part of our lives and in every relationship. I do this work because I want to be of service to people on their journey to uncover, express, and live those intimate and erotic truths.
